Traditionally, in order to deliver broadband to your router you needed to have a traditional phone line installed. SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is the future of broadband that doesn’t run over a traditional line. Instead, SoGEA offers a dedicated line that delivers a broadband connection without the need to rent a phone line.

 

What is SoGEA broadband?

SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access and is a fibre broadband service which doesn’t require the need for the installation of a traditional phone line or PSTN line. With the Big Switch Off on its way in 2025, many businesses don’t want or need traditional phone lines. SoGEA broadband can be combined with VoIP services, providing a cost-effective, minimal disruption and fast solution for phone and broadband systems with speeds of up to 80Mbs.

With the WLR Withdrawal set for 2025, traditional broadband services will cease to exist and everyone will need to source their internet connectivity through a SoGEA line or Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connection. This SoGEA line will run along with the existing infrastructure, however, this will purely provide a data connection and no longer facilitate calls. Therefore, if calling functionality is required, a SoGEA line will need to be accompanied by one of our Cloud Voice packages.

Is my business suitable for SoGEA?

Any business can benefit from switching to SoGEA with NBC, however, there are location limitations. SoGEA is not currently widely available across the UK yet. However, SoGEA will be accessible wherever fibre broadband is in use. So this means that if you already have fibre broadband access, you’ll most likely to be able to switch to SoGEA. Is SoGEA or SoGFast different in performance than FTTC & GFast?

No, you will receive exactly the same performance as you currently do. In some bases you will get a better performance since there is no call traffic that can interfere with integrity of the service.

What Speeds are available with SoGEA Fibre Broadband?

SoGEA is available in 40Mbps/10Mbps, 55Mbps/10Mbps and 80Mbps/20Mbps speeds. SoGFast offers speeds of 160Mbps/30Mbps and 330Mbps/50Mbps.
